How to Improve Concentration and Focus

The Neglected part of Building Concentration and Focus-

Remember how the impressions formed in the mind get stored in the subconscious?

They play an important part in the makeup of our minds. When called up into conscious awareness, they can influence our state of mind. We must, therefore, be watchful of what impressions are formed and stored in our memories.

It’s not always possible to control what you see and hear, but we can try to keep the mixture as healthy as possible. The company you keep, the books you read, the places you visit, the stories you hear—all these go to make up our mental eco-system.

For example if you watch a lot of porn, you won’t be surprised if those images keep popping up in your mind. If you read a lot of material that make you angry and upset, you can expect those sensations to keep coming up in your mind. Garbage in, garbage out.

The mind is our organ of awareness. It gives us the ability to focus and concentrate. It’s up to each of us to choose whether we want to make our mental climate toxic and unhealthy—or nourishing and life-giving.

We have the freedom to choose what we read, watch, talk about, do. The thing to remember is this: Repeated activity strengthens the impressions created by the activity. If you stop the activity, the impressions get weaker, and with time, practically disappears from awareness.
